Shimmery English Muffins

Last Updated: 1/17/26

As though English Muffins weren't precious enough, we thought we'd add a little BLING to the breed! Since 2019, when we, My Divine Feline and Nevada Rain Cats, came up with the idea of the English Muffin, we knew we had something special. English Muffins gained in popularity because of their ultra sweet temperament, playful demeanor, and adorable round faces, short legs, and plush coats. We have seen our English Muffins go to wonderful homes all across the USA and into Mexico. We have worked hard to ensure fabulous health in our cats and now we are getting our SHIMMER line established.

This page is devoted to our SHIMMERY English Muffins. All of the kittens and adults on this page either carry the glitter gene (gl/n) or express the glitter gene (gl/gl). The glitter gene, now part of the Optimal Selection traits panel, is a gene that is most common in Bengals and Genettas. We had no idea how splendid the glittered cats were until we witnessed it first hand. Unless you have actually seen and felt a cat with a glittered coat, you can't know how absolutely phenomenal it is. Glittered cats are extremely soft. softer than any cat I've ever felt. Their coats are not just extremely soft either, glitter expressing cats shine. Each hair has microscopic mirror-like structures, like glitter, inside. I have actually placed hairs under a microscope and captured this magnificent shimmering on video. I have shared three of these short videos below.

Currently, Nevada Rain Cats and My Divine Feline, are building the foundation of our Shimmery English Muffin lines. We have several glitter carrying English Muffins and we hope that in the near future we will have litters that will produce glitter expressing English Muffin kittens. In order for a cat to express glitter, or show it, they must get the glitter gene from both of their parents. When both parents carry the glitter gene, each offspring has a 25% chance of getting the glitter gene from each parent. The SHIMMER takes multiple generations of breeding to bring it in to our English Muffins, but we are sure that once we have Shimmery English Muffins, they will be insanely popular.

Our Planned/Expected ShimmerLitters: All of the below litters can express or carry glitter.
  • Reba and Harry expect a litter in late January, early February, 2026.
  • Dickens and Minkie may also expect a litter in late January.
  • Cliff and Zinna expect a litter around February 20th. This litter will be 56.25% British Shorthair and each kitten will have a 25% chance of expressing glitter. All kittens will carry cinnamon. We'd like to keep any glitter expressing kittens in this litter. We're hoping for a Shimmery English Muffin, shorty girl.
  • Cliff and Gili expect a litter in late February as well. This litter is 43.75% British Shorthair and each kitten will have a 25% chance of expressing glitter. We would like to keep any glitter expressing kittens in this litter as well. Their last litter didn't produce any glitter expressing kittens, but these kittens had amazing personalities. Gerald is available now from their last litter, see below.
  • We are growing in excitement that one of our DBE (dominant blue eyed) queens is expecting a litter. Of course I will let you know as soon as I know!
We will look at all shimmer carrying or showing litters for kittens to keep here at Nevada Rain. We will do this until our Shimmery English Muffin Breeding Program is established. The goal of our Shimmery English Muffin Breeding Program is to have ALL shimmer/glitter expressing, healthy, breeding cats, one or two males and four to six queens whose litters are 50-75% British Shorthair.

The videos below show hairs of Mookie, a glitter expressing bengal under a microscope. I took these videos myself. Mookie is the father of Wookie and Reba. We hope to add Shimmery English Muffin breeders that will be growing up here at Nevada Rain by the end of 2026. We currently have one glitter expressing, non-dwarf, 25% British Shorthair, English Muffin female growing up here at Nevada Rain right now. You can see her at the bottom of this page. Her name is Rosaline. She is the daughter of Cliff and Juliet (glitter expressing Genetta, not pictured on this website, but she is dna tested, clear for all disorders and is the most gorgeous cinnamon, shimmery cat).
What is Glitter? Glitter is a recessive gene, which means that cats with the shimmering or glittered coats carry two copies of the glitter gene. Cats exhibiting the glittered coats have a beautiful shimmer to their coats. The ends of their hairs are either hollow or have little microscopic mirror-like prisms in them that make them glisten. They also have amazingly soft fur. Feel free to Google it yourself, but this is an example of what the glitter looks like on a Bengal cat's coat:

DNA Testing our Shimmer EM Line with Optimal Selection:

You might notice that some of the cats on this page are dna tested, while others are not. We will only be dna testing our Shimmery EM Line when one or both parents carry only one copy of glitter. We have dna tested our parent cats for generations, so we don't have any surprises when it comes to the health disorders and traits our cats carry. We will not dna test if one parent expresses glitter and that parent is crossed with a non-carrier of glitter. This is because we know each kitten will get a copy of glitter from the glitter expressing parent (gl/gl) and will not get a copy from their non-carrier parent (n/n), so all offspring is gl/n. We will save those dna tests for the litters that have one or both glitter carrying parents to see if a kitten carries one or both copies of glitter and they can actually not carry it at all also. If both parents carry glitter, each kitten has a 25% chance of expressing glitter (gl/gl), 50% chance of carrying glitter (gl/n) and a 25% chance of not carrying glitter at all (n/n).

If we do dna test a specific cat/kitten, their dna results will be listed with their pictures and information on this page. If we don't, you can rest assured that both parents were dna tested, no health disorders are carried by the cat, and we know that cat carries one copy of glitter. Eventually, we will have all of these cats in our Shimmer Line dna tested and all will express glitter OR will carry it and be high percentage British Shorthair.

You might also noticed that our British Shorthair percentages have decreased in almost all of our litters. When we are adding glitter, it usually brings down our percentage of British Shorthair because we are breeding our brits and EMs with a bengal or genetta, and then we need to make crosses to bring up the percentage of British Shorthair again with glitter carrying cats being crossed back with a purebred or very high percentage Brit English Muffins. My favorite percentage range of British Shorthair breeding in our English Muffins is 60-75% British Shorthair, so our goal for the Shimmery EM Line is this percentage range. This will likely take us a couple more years to achieve. In conclusion, our Shimmery English Muffin Line will eventually be 60-75% British Shorthair and all will express glitter (gl/gl), so all of our kittens will too.

Of course, we always have the health of our kittens in the front of our minds, and color variety and popularity in certain colors and patterns in mind as well.

Minkie's DNA Results
Minkie is too good to be true. She is a standard English Muffin lady who is seal golden shaded tortie mink. She carries both siamese and Burmese colorpoint which is what makes her mink and she is also tortoise shell or tortie, which means she is black golden and red. She has aqua eyes and has grown into a magnificently beautiful adult. We sent an Optimal Selection dna test off for Minkie and we are pleased to announce that Minkie is our first glitter carrying English Muffin girl we've produced and raised here at Nevada Rain. If you'd like more information on the glitter gene and  what our plans are to create Shimmery English Muffins, please visit the English Muffin Kings page and look for Dickens' listing. You can view Minkie's results by clicking on the button above. We have high hopes for Minkie here at Nevada Rain.

Dickens is dna tested with Optimal Selection and you can view his results by clicking the button below. Dickens had his very first litter in May of 2024. He and Zaini's litter is all marbled and my goodness are they gorgeous. We have high hopes of Dickens and Minkie producing a litter in 2025. Dickens and Mlawa expect a 75% British Shorthair litter due in April.

Zinna is absolutely staying at Nevada Rain. She is our first cinnamon golden shorty female AND she carries glitter, which makes her such a gem!! We have her DNA results back and she carries the most important genes: cinnamon, GLITTER, dilution and a copy each of agouti (tabby) and non-agouti (non-tabby or solid, like Zaini). She is also all clear for all 50 disorders tested upon by Optimal Selection. She is a standard English Muffin who is 62.5% British Shorthair. These two sisters, Zinna and Ziona, are so perfect!! Zinna also has a splendid personality. She is so sweet and loving and loves to play. She is such a perfect addition to our cattery and we can't wait to see her kittens in 2025. She could produce our very first glittered or shimmery English Muffin.

Ziona is PURRRRRFECT, as is her sister, Zinna. Ziona carries GLITTER, cinnamon, colorpoint, agouti/tabby, solid color, dilute, and is a standard English Muffin who is 62.5% British Shorthair. Her DNA results also indicate that she does not carry any of the tested upon disorders. We are so excited to add Ziona and her sister Zinna, to Nevada Rain's SHIMMER LINE! Ziona's DNA results are below, just click on the button! She's so gorgeous!! In 2025, Ziona is rooming with Archie, and we have some very cool possibilities in color, pattern, shimmer carriers, high percentage british shorthair and all kinds of amazing stuff possible in this litter.

Oliver is our very first homegrown glitter carrying English Muffin. He is such an adorable boy with a fabulously confident, playful, and sweet personality. He is a seal marbled snow lynx who carries chocolate or cinnamon, one copy of glitter, two copies of siamese colorpoint, and can also carry dilute. His dad is my favorite English Muffin boy, Paxton, and his mom is a glitter expressing super model whose name is Glitter. Both parents are genetically tested and clear for all disorders. Oliver will stay here and hopefully create some beautiful Shimmery English Muffins in 2025. Oliver will not be dna tested because we know he is clear for all disorders and he carries glitter and we will have to dna test his offspring in the future. Oliver is such a handsome, playful, silly boy. Oliver is currently rooming with Vana Banana.

Gili is such a perfect little lady. When I put in the order with the Man Upstairs, I ordered Gili. She is a gorgeous little glitter carrying black golden marbled shorty English Muffin. She either carries cinnamon or chocolate and carries one copy of siamese colorpoint. She also has a 50% chance of carrying dilute. Gili will stay at Nevada Rain and we are hopeful that she will produce gorgeous kittens in the future. Gili does not need to be dna tested because we know she is genetically clear for all disorders because her parents are and we know what traits she carries aside from dilute. She has the looks and the personality that makes her a perfect Nevada Rain English Muffin. Gili's a truly special kitty. She holds her tail straight up and in a question mark, like her grandma, Peeka. It's one of my favorite things. Gili is a happy, affectionate kitty and she was such a doll for her most recent pictures taken on 10/26/24. We mated Gili with Cliff in 2025. We can't imagine a cuter cross. Their offspring can express glitter.

Cliff is a silver, marbled, non-dwarf, 50% British Shorthair English Muffin male. He is from genetically clear parents for all disorders. His parents are both social butterflies who love love. Cliff is really a sweet kitty too. He's always playing and is a confident, social fellow. Cliff is growing up big and strong and so gorgeous. He's looks and personality. Holy moly! Man, Cliff is really growing into a fabulous cat. He's so gorgeous and is so funny! He has such a great personality and is so comical and smart. We can't wait until he has his first kittens on the way. Cliff has kittens now, Summer of 2025, with Metalli and Reba. Gili was also mated with Cliff for possible glittered kittens. Cliff's daughter Rosaline is growing up right now at Nevada Rain. She is our first Shimmery English Muffin (gl/gl). She's non-dwarf, non-agouti silver who carries dilute, cinnamon, colorpoint, long hair and two copies of glitter. She's truly something to look at and shines like no cat I've ever seen. Her dark color and expression of glitter is so gorgous!!

Wookie is a silver mitted, shorty boy we are keeping. He is the son of Poppy (silver shaded English Muffin queen) and Mookie (Glitter expressing Bengal king). He was born September 16th and carries glitter and sepia or burmese colorpoint. This guy excites me! Minks are one of my favorite colors and I don't think I've ever seen a silver mink, which this guy could produce in SHIMMER. Wookie also has exceptional personalities on both sides of his pedigree. Poppy is probably the sweetest cat I've ever had and Mookie is such a smart, goofy cat. Wookie purrrrrs like a mad man as soon as you touch him and plays and plays and plays. I adore him!! We are excited to mate him with Harvest and Autumn, our DBE or DB/OE girls that are 75% British Shorthair and are chocolate and red golden shaded torbies (GORGEOUS!!).

Veta will be a key kitty in the future of our Shimmery English Muffin. Veta is a cute little dearest! Veta is also the mother of Vernon, below, who has been added to our Shimmery lines in the winter of 2025-26.

Reba is a dreamy little superstar. She is chocolate golden spotted and she carries cinnamon and glitter. She will bring in some amazing characteristics that are absolutely where I'm headed with my Shimmery English Muffins. She is sweet, playful, smart and has all those genes I'm excited about Reba has a young adult daughter available now. Reba is expecting a litter in early February fathered, for the first time, by Harry (purebred British Shorthair). Their babies will be 71.875% British Shorthair. We'd love to keep a shorty female in this litter. All kittens will carry one or two copies of chocolate, or one copy of chocolate and one copy of cinnamon, colorpoint and dilute from Harry, and each kitten will have a 50% chance of carrying glitter and the dwarf gene.

Rosaline is our very first glitter expressing, home-raised, non-dwarf English Muffin. She has already begun to shimmer as her baby fur is replaced with the shiniest fur I've ever seen. She is going to be so beautiful!! She is 25% British Shorthair. She has been dna tested and those tests confirm that she expresses glitter, carrying two copies of glitter, one from each parent. She carries some other genes that are fabulous too, so we have high hopes of this little lady having beautiful babies in her life, little shimmery beauties!
Rosaline's DNA Results

Vernon is a blue silver point, non-dwarf English Muffin, male. He is 75% British Shorthair and is genetically clear for all tested upon disorders, according to Optimal Selection. He carries glitter. He actually carries a very rare combination of genes that makes him appear like a colorpoint as well. He carries only one copy of siamese colorpoint which usually results in a non-pointed kitten, but he carries a rare albinism gene that when paired with siamese colorpoint, the kitten has blue eyes and appears to be a colorpoint. Vernon is beautiful, no matter what and I'm sure he will grow to be a stunning lad. We have added Vernon to our shimmery EM line this winter, 2025-26, and we hope he will have his first litter in 2026.
